HBO Max has released the official trailer for the first of two Euphoria special episodes set to air on the streamer and it arrives as fans of the series are eagerly anticipating a second season.
These special episodes are not intended to be a peek into season two but more of a bridge that could lead into what's to come. The first episode, titled "Part 1: Rue", stars Zendaya and Colman Domingo and could possibly feature Hunter Schafer since the trailer teases us with flashbacks to the storyline featuring Rue (Zendaya) and Jules (Schafer) during season one. When the special episodes were announced HBO said that the first episode logline read "In the aftermath of being left by Jules at the train station and relapsing, the first special episode follows Rue (played by Emmy®-winner Zendaya) as she celebrates Christmas." "Part 1: Rue" is the first of two special episodes that will air ahead of season two but a release date for the second episode had yet to be revealed. You can catch "Part 1: Rue" on December 6, 2020.
The new trailer is noteworthy because it seemingly confirms Rue's fate after the season one finale. I won't give anything away, but the close minutes of the first season left some questions open as to the fate of her character but this new trailer seems to indicate where she's headed. Season one of Euphoria truly was one of the most compelling and hypnotic series to debut last year and its raw approach to its storylines, while heard to watch at times, were compellingly gut-wrenching. Zendaya more than proved her worth as an actress in the role of Rue and her Emmy win for Best Actress in a Drama Series was a well-deserved recognition of her work.
