While it may be a long wait until HBO's Euphoria is set to air its second season, fans are getting a little special treat for the holidays because the series is set to air two new episodes, with one being a Christmas special.
The episodes were completed safely during the pandemic, and the first one comes from writer/director Sam Levinson and stars Zendaya as she tries to celebrate Christmas while reckoning with all the traumatic stuff that happened to her during the first season. The episode, titled “Trouble Don’t Last Always”, also features Colman Domingo, who played Ali, a man who goes to Rue’s support groups and absolutely devastates all those watching with his monologues of tough wisdom. The first episode is set to air on December 6, 2020, and details for the second episode, including its airdate, will come at a later time. Zendaya made the announcement about the new episodes on her Instagram page which can be seen below:
Euphoria quickly became of my favorite new shows after it premiered because of its brutal honesty and raw depiction of the trials and tribulations that teens can go through. The story is given a bit more honesty because creator Sam Levinson, who is loosely adapting the Israeli series of the same name, used some of his own experience with addiction to help shape some of the series. The show has been well-received by critics although it did become the subject of controversy due to its use of nudity and sexual content, which some critics perceived to be excessive. Despite this, the show's star, Zendaya, won the Primetime Emmy Award and Satelite Award for Best Actress in a Drama series. Even though this isn't a full second season just yet, these two episodes will bridge some of the gap for most of the series' fans. You can check out the official synopsis of the first episode set to air in December below:
In the aftermath of being left by Jules at the train station and relapsing, the first special episode follows Rue (played by Emmy®-winner Zendaya) as she celebrates Christmas. Written and directed by series creator Sam Levinson, the episode, titled “Trouble Don’t Last Always,” also stars Colman Domingo, who appeared in season one.
Will YOU be watching the two new Euphoria episodes? The first episode is set to air on HBO on December 6, 2020, at 9 PM, and will stream on HBO Max after.
