Ethan Hawke has been one of my favorite actors ever since I was a young kid. EXPLORERS, DEAD POETS SOCIETY, WHITE FANG, ALIVE, REALITY BITES, BEFORE SUNRISE, all of those movies had an impact either directly on me or on pop culture during my formative years. I enjoy watching him in the dramas I best know him for, and I like it when he ventures in horror and action genre work in films like THE PURGE, SINISTER, and the remakes of ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 and THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN.
Hawke has another action project coming out in December, and this one looks like it has the potential to be badass.
That upcoming action movie is 24 HOURS TO LIVE. Directed by Brian Smrz from a screenplay by Zach Dean, Jim McClain, and Ron Mita, it tells the following story:
Travis Conrad (Hawke) is a former elite soldier devastated over the recent tragic deaths of his wife and young son, when his old army buddy Jim Morrow (Paul Anderson) shows up with an offer he can’t refuse. Morrow now works for a powerful and highly secretive private military contractor, Red Mountain, who hires Travis for an extremely dangerous – but extremely lucrative – assassination job. Travis accepts the covert assignment, but everything goes completely wrong when he is shot and killed by an equally skilled female Interpol agent, Lin Bisset (Xu Qing) right at the moment he locates the target.
But, just when we think it’s curtains for Travis, he wakes up in an operating room, his body convulsing back to life – a recipient of Red Mountain’s brand new, highly experimental medical procedure that will give him 24 more hours of life… plenty of time for Morrow to extract the location of the target, information that only Travis knows.
Also in the cast are Liam Cunningham and Rutger Hauer.
Among the producers is JOHN WICK's Basil Iwanyk, and while this doesn't appear to have quite the style of JOHN WICK, it does look like it will be delivering in the action department.
The trailer for 24 HOURS TO LIVE can be seen below. The movie is set to reach theatres on December 1st.
