Kit Harington entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Dane Whitman in Eternals. While his role wasn’t the biggest, it set the character up to become the Black Knight somewhere down the line. The post-credit scene of Eternals involved Dane Whitman finding the Ebony Blade, but so far there’s been no indication of when Kit Harington will be back.

While speaking with THR, Kit Harington said that he knew that his character might a future in the franchise from the very start. “I kind of knew that that might be a possibility,” Harington said. “I wasn’t that interested in rocking up in a Marvel movie just to play someone’s boyfriend. I knew of some future possibilities, so that’s always been part of the conversation. But like with anything, you don’t really know. You sort of do your research on what character it could be, and you go, ‘Oh, that looks quite fun.’ But it’s up to them whether they want to bring that person into their plans.” The actor added that he has “no idea what [Marvel’s] plans are” for the character at this stage, but he’s definitely down to return for more.

The post-credit scene of Eternals found Dane Whitman opening an ancient family chest that contains the Ebony Blade. As he prepares himself to touch it, he’s interrupted by the voice of someone from off-camera who says, “Sure you’re ready for that, Mr. Whitman?” The identity of this individual wasn’t revealed in the film, but Eternals director Chloé Zhao later confirmed that the character was Blade, as played by Mahershala Ali. With production on the Blade movie paused while Marvel looks for a new director and no movement on an Eternals sequel, it’s hard to say when or where Kit Harington will return as Dane Whitman.
