Over the course of the past decade, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has introduced countless characters, some of whom have gone on to play even bigger roles in the franchise. The next film on the MCU slate is Eternals, which will welcome a new group of powerful heroes who have been around for a lot longer than anyone has realized. Included in the ensemble cast of Eternals is Kit Harington, who plays Dane Whitman. This likely won’t be the only time we see these new characters in the MCU and the Game of Thrones actor told Total Film that he hopes that this is only the tip of the iceberg for his character.
“I’ve got no idea whether my character goes on or not,” Kit Harington said. “I had read up on who he could be, or might be. So there’s the possibility for a longer trajectory. And hopefully, I think this is the tip of the iceberg for my character. I hope. But I just don’t know, you know? I’m as in the dark as anyone else. And I try not to live too far ahead in the future with anything. Even when I was in Game of Thrones, even on the sixth season, I presumed the seventh season wasn’t going to happen!” Marvel fans know that Dane Whitman takes on the mantle of the Black Knight, but based on Harington’s comments, we may not get to see Whitman fully embrace that side of him in Eternals.
Kit Harington went on to tease that Dane Whitman has a “special connection” with Gemma Chan’s Sersi, but that he’s just “the human character of the story. He’s not an Eternal. He’s a character who works with the National Museum in London. But he’s not an Eternal – that’s the main takeaway!“
