Is Eternals destined to be Marvel’s next big hit? It might be too early to call that prediction but if the first day of advanced ticket sales is any indication, it will be another example of Marvel besting the pandemic era box office.
Per “Deadline“, advanced ticket sales for Eternals are already huge and it’s estimated that in its first day of pre-sales, the film pulled in an estimated $2.6 million. For comparisons sakes, that amount is +86% ahead of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ($1.4 million) and +30% ahead of Black Widow ($2 million) over the same time period. If there was some uncertainty about how Eternals would perform at the box office, this puts things in a much better perspective.
Also impressive was its advanced ticket sales at the No.1 theater chain, AMC. They’re claiming that the film has seen their largest day-one sales so for this year after tickets for the Marvel ensemble went on sale Monday. This all goes to show that Eternals is in good company. Black Widow opened to $80.3 million, which makes it the second-best domestic opener of the year (behind Venom: Let There Carnage’s $90 million debut) and it reps the best opening of the summer. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings holds the third biggest domestic opening of the year with $75.3 million over three days of the four-day Labor Day weekend. With strong advanced sales in only 24 hours, it would suggest that Eternals will fall in that range or will perhaps go even higher. Currently, the biggest November openings for Marvel films are Thor: Ragnarok ($122.7 million), Thor: The Dark World ($85.7 million), and Doctor Strange ($85 million).
