Escape Room: Tournament of Champions trailer plays a bigger, deadlier game

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I quite enjoy escape rooms; when done right, they're a hell of a lot of fun as you and your team try to piece the clues together before time runs out, but even as tensions run high, you know that your life isn't really in danger, but in 2019's Escape Room, six people found that the mysterious escape room they were invited to was actually quite deadly. The film was surprisingly successful and a sequel was quickly announced, and after several delays due to COVID-19, Escape Room: Tournament of Champions is ready to be unleashed.

Escape Room: Tournament of Champions finds the survivors of the previous game trapped in a new series of escape rooms with more players, and, as the title hints, discovering that they've all played the game before. The sequel stars Taylor Russell, Logan Miller, Carlito Olivero, Indya Moore, Holland Roden, and Thomas Cocquerel, and has once again been directed by Adam Robitel. I haven't gotten around to watching the first Escape Room for myself, but our own JimmyO found himself pleasantly surprised when he reviewed the film two years ago, saying that although it "may not reinvent the wheel or shock audiences with any major revelation… it certainly manages to entertain."

The official synopsis for Escape Room: Tournament of Champions:

Escape Room: Tournament of Champions is the sequel to the box office hit psychological thriller that terrified audiences around the world. In this installment, six people unwittingly find themselves locked in another series of escape rooms, slowly uncovering what they have in common to survive…and discovering they’ve all played the game before.

Escape Room: Tournament of Champions will hit theaters on July 16, 2021.
