Genre fans in Australia can already go out to see director Adam Robitel's sequel to his 2019 horror-thriller Escape Room (watch it HERE), titled Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, but in other countries we still have some days to wait for it. For example, the film won't be reaching the United States until July 16th. As Tournament of Champions makes its way out into the world, we've gotten ahold of a brief clip from the movie that provides the set-up: the characters in this one have survived previous deadly escape room games. One of them even speaks the film's subtitle out loud in a line of dialogue. This clip, followed by the trailer, can be seen in the embed above.
Scripted by Will Honley, Oren Uziel, Maria Melnik, and Daniel Tuch from a story by Honley, Christine Lavaf, and Fritz Bohm, Escape Room: Tournament of Champions follows
six people who find themselves locked in another series of escape rooms, slowly uncovering what they have in common to survive… and discovering they’ve all played the game before.
Taylor Russell and Logan Miller have come back from the first film and are joined in the cast by Indya Moore, Holland Roden, Isabelle Fuhrman, Carlito Olivero, Thomas Cocquerel, and James Frain.
Escape Room: Tournament of Champions was produced by Neal H. Moritz. Robitel served as executive producer alongside Karina Rahardja and Philip Waley.
I enjoyed the first Escape Room a lot more than I expected to. I even waited until the film had been out on home video for a while before I ever got around to watching it, since I figured it was just another Saw knock-off. I should have watched it sooner, because it was entertaining. I will definitely be watching Escape Room: Tournament of Champions as soon as possible.
Robitel previously directed Insidious: The Last Key and The Taking of Deborah Logan. As we reported earlier today, he's currently developing a genre show called The Craving for Netflix.
