Director Adam Robitel's ESCAPE ROOM wasn't very appealing to me, but our own JimmyO gave it a 7/10 review and it was clearly a film that had the right title and concept at the right time. Made on a budget of $9 million, it has earned almost $120 million at the global box office since it first hit theatres at the beginning of January. You know what a return on investment like that means: sequel.
Columbia Pictures has officially announced that they will be releasing ESCAPE ROOM 2 on April 17, 2020. So if you liked ESCAPE ROOM, you'll be getting more of it in just under 14 months.
Scripted by Bragi Schut and Maria Melnik, the first ESCAPE ROOM was about
six strangers who find themselves in a maze of deadly rooms, and must use their wits to find the clues or die.
The sequel announcement doesn't include any plot details, but it has been confirmed that Robitel will be directing ESCAPE ROOM 2 from a screenplay by Schut.
This one's moving quickly, so we'll probably be hearing more about ESCAPE ROOM 2 soon. We'll keep you updated.
