While there may not be many people (under 40) who recall CHiPS, the show chronicling the adventures of two California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers, Erik Estrada certainly does. Estrada, who played Frank “Ponch” Poncherello in the original series, has seen the trailer for Dax Shepard's recent adaption and doesn't appear to be a fan! How about that! He shared the following Tweets on his account yesterday, and they don't pull any punches!
@robbyynnnnnn @ErikEstrada @LarryDWilcox saw the trailer the other day…PURE TRASH…remember(not 100%sure) real CHiPs NEVER drew their gun

@LarryDWilcox @ErikEstrada I tell you that new CHiPs movie that is either in the works or done is demeaning 2 CHiPs' fans & I will nt see it

Granted, Estrada didn't actually write the words himself, but the fact that he shared it seems to indicate that they echo his sentiment. It's certainly hard to argue with them! The trailer makes no mistake about trying to go the JUMP STREET route with its source material, for better and (probably) for worse. We here at JoBlo will definitely have more to say about it come this Friday's Movie Show Podcast!
CHIPS will hit theaters on March 24, 2017.
