We all know Eric Red as the writer of THE HITCHER and NEAR DARK, or from his directorial work on BODY PARTS, BAD MOON and 100 FEET, but the jack-of-all-trades is also an accomplished author whose latest work, “The Guns of Santa Sangre“, will soon be available from Samhain Publishing.
If you’re a fan of the written word like I am then you are probably aware that Samhain Horror has been consistantly delivering some of the best genre literature of the past few years with a stable of authors that includes Ronald Malfi, Bryan Smith, Stephan Laws Brian Moreland and filmmaker-cum-author Kristopher Rufty, whose “Angel Board” was one of the best debut novels of the last decade. So it comes as a pleasant surprise to find that Samhain will be publishing “The Guns of Santa Sangre” from one of the best writers (film or otherwise) in the genre.
Red’s novel features werewolves in the Old West and the official synopsis reads:
They’re hired guns. The best at what they do. They’ve left bodies in their wake across the West. But this job is different. It’ll take all their skill and courage. And very special bullets. Because their targets this time won’t be shooting back. They’ll fight back with ripping claws, tearing fangs and animal cunning. They’re werewolves. A pack of bloodthirsty wolfmen has taken over a small Mexican village, and the gunmen are the villagers’ last hope. The light of the full moon will reveal the deadliest showdown the West has ever seen—three men with six-shooters facing off against snarling, inhuman monsters.
Sounds like a damn fine read, doesn’t it? Of course it does! It’s Eric f’n Red!
Red’s prose has even received some high praise from legendary horror author Jack Ketchum, who said:
In our mythos of the Old West, there are bad guys and even badder guys, But Eric Red’s are the biggest, baddest guys of all…”
