THE DARK TOWER follows Gunslinger Roland Deschain (Idris Elba) as he roams an Old West-like landscape in search of (you guessed it) the dark tower, in hopes that reaching it will preserve his dying world. This Stephen King adaptation has been teasing fans for years and is now finally in production under the guiding hand of Nikolaj Arcel (A ROYAL AFFAIR) and producer Ron Howard. Entertainment Weekly has just dropped their new cover featuring Elba as The Gunslinger, as well as Matthew McConaughey as The Man in Black. Check it out!
Idris Elba on his character:
When we meet Roland he’s a bit lost. He’s been walking around for a long time, so he definitely feels like a man who’s…coiled. I like to bring a little depth and bring a real character. And what’s been fun is, Nik’s really up for that. So we do takes that are a little bit more commercial, if you like, and we do takes that are f***ing deep, like we’re making an independent film. It’s an iconic character. I want to get it right.
The upcoming issue of EW will cover a lot of the flicks that will be at Comic Con, but in terms of THE DARK TOWER, there will be interviews with Elba, McConaughey, Arcel, and even Stephen King regarding the state of his film. I haven't read any books in the series myself, but from the King fans I know, if they get this movie right we're in for something else!
THE DARK TOWER hits theaters on February 17, 2017.
