The Twilight Zone is easily one of my favourite TV series of all-time. Even though the series will be celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, the show still holds up remarkably well with superb acting, compelling stories, and fantastic twists. Following the conclusion of the original series, there were several revivals of The Twilight Zone, including one which ran from 1985-89, and another which ran from 2002-03, but it's the third revival of the classic Rod Serling series which is shaping up to be the most impressive yet. Executive produced and hosted by Jordan Peele, CBS All Access' upcoming Twilight Zone reboot will bring "the original show’s legacy of socially conscious storytelling to modern day audiences, exploring the human condition and holding a lens up to the culture of our times."
CBS All Access have released trailers for two episodes of The Twilight Zone, the first of which, Nightmare at 30,000 Feet, is inspired by the classic original episode and stars Adam Scott, and the other, The Comedian, stars Kumail Nanjiani and Tracy Morgan. Check them out.
While speaking with THR, executive producers Jordan Peele and Simon Kinberg explained why the time was right for a return to The Twilight Zone. "I sat down with Simon a couple years ago, and we did the whole, 'OK, well, this is too big a show to reboot, but if we were going to do it, how would we do it?' And one of the things that we kept coming back to was that the timing felt right. Because one of the sentences you hear often, like once a week for the past couple of years, is it feels like we're living in the f**king Twilight Zone," Peele said. Kinberg added, "I think the world, all of a sudden, was in desperate need of The Twilight Zone. If I told you three or four years ago that a reality star would be the president with access to the nuclear codes, you would've been like, 'That is a crazy episode of The Twilight Zone.'"
The first two episodes of The Twilight Zone will debut on CBS All Access on April 1, 2019.
