When tickets for AVENGERS: ENDGAME went on sale last week it didn’t take long for moviegoers to storm the internet and claim as many tickets as they could for themselves in what I assume was a digital bloodbath. Within hours the movie was breaking records, and after six hours it broke the record for most tickets sold on its first day of pre-sales on Fandango. Though it shouldn’t come as a surprise to learn it’s outselling all other movies at this same point in their pre-sale cycle, Fandango has revealed that ENDGAME has blasted past the ticket sales of its massive predecessor, leaving it in the dust like Spider-Man. Too soon?
Fandango took to Twitter to announce that during its first full week of sales that not only has ENDGAME outsold its predecessor – AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – but that’s sold five times as many tickets as that movie at the same point in presales. Not only is this a staggering amount of tickets sold, but Managing Editor Erik Davis confirmed that this means ENDGAME has broken the record for the best first week of any movie’s pre-sales, on top of the record it broke for the best first day – both once held by STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS.
If that all wasn’t enough, Davis tweeted that the movie is the top ticket seller on the site, trumping all other recent releases currently in theaters. We should have expected the movie to do well in the ticket-selling department, but we should also remember that INFINITY WAR and THE FORCE AWAKENS both have the top opening weekends of any movie at $257 million and $247 million, respectively. Now, ENDGAME is blowing them out of the water, so with analysts discussing if has what it takes to set a new opening weekend record, the signs are looking very good it will.

One factor that some have mentioned that could lead to ENDGAME not opening at the exact same level (if not higher) than INFINITY WAR is the fact it’s a three-hour movie, which means fewer showtimes theaters can accommodate. That doesn’t seem like quite the hinderance now, as Davis’ tweet included that thousands of showtimes have sold out across the country, with theaters scrambling to add more showtimes.
Again, no one should be surprised the movie is selling so many tickets, but the fact it’s selling this many compared to INFINITY WAR – which itself sold an unspeakable number of tickets and broke records on opening weekend – is sort of unreal. If you got your tickets already then you can sleep easy knowing your position is secure (especially if you got that reserved seating option), but for anyone else who is, for some reason, waiting to get theirs, then you better get on it now.
AVENGERS: ENDGAME is in theaters April 26.
