The Emperor’s New Groove (2000) Revisited: Animated Movie Review

Last Updated on April 3, 2022

Boom, baby! We’re back with another episode of Animation Movies Revisited! In this episode, we’ll be investigating the 40th and fourth-wall-breaking Walt Disney Pictures animated classic, The Emperor’s New Groove.

Directed by Mark Dindal (Chicken Little, Cats Don’t Dance), this hilarious animated comedy takes us into a kingdom inspired by Machu Picchu, where a narcissist names Emperor Kuzco is vindictively transformed into a llama by a mad scientist named Yzma. Left with little choice but to embark on a life-altering road trip with a kind-hearted peasant named Pacha, Kuzco soon discovers that the world doesn’t revolve around him and that being heartless only guarantees loneliness.

Throughout the latest episode of our exciting new series, we’ll uncover the arduous origin of The Emperor’s New Groove, find ourselves front and center for Sting’s exit from the project, and discover how this Disney musical salvaged one of its most unique animated films from the wreckage.

Grab your warmest alpaca sweater, mind your manners around friendly woodland creatures, and get ready to embark on a road trip through mythical hillsides to teach one egotistical emperor the value of friendship and loyalty to one’s kingdom.

Animation Movies Revisited is written and narrated by Steve Seigh, and was edited by Jasmyn Evans-Samuels. Chris Bumbray produces, and Berge Garabedian is the executive producer.
