Before the main cast was officially announced, it was reported that Sony was eyeing Emma Stone to play one of the female Ghostbusters in the upcoming Paul Feig-directed reboot. The Sony hack revealed the studio did want the actress for GHOSTBUSTERS, but as you know, she's not going to be in the film. During an interview with WSJ, Stone said she turned down the role, and explained why she passed on GHOSTBUSTERS.
The script was really funny. It just didn’t feel like the right time for me. A franchise is a big commitment—it’s a whole thing. I think maybe I need a minute before I dive back into that water.
It sounds like THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN movies may have given Emma Stone a case of franchise fatigue. I can't say I blame her for not wanting to be involved with another big movie franchise (right now, anyway), especially with the backlash the all-female reboot has received. Are you disappointed Stone won't be in GHOSTBUSTERS?
Paul Feig will start shooting GHOSTBUSTERS later this week in Boston for its July 22, 2016 release.
