As the second season of AMC's Fear the Walking Dead came to a close, the characters Nick (Frank Dillane) and Luciana (Danay Garcia) were leading a group of people out of Mexico, hoping to find help on the U.S. border. Instead, they were greeted by a violent militia. Luciana was shot, Nick was knocked unconscious. That militia will play a large role in the story of the third season, and the show will also be introducing a "prominent new character", a female villain who executive producer Dave Erickson has said "is going to have an impact on Nick and Luciana" and will come off as being very powerful.
TVLine has caught word that actress Emma Caulfield, probably best known for playing Anya on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, will be joining the cast of Fear the Walking Dead for season 3, and while details on her character are being kept secret some are speculating that she could be playing this "female villain".
With characters scattered in different places north and south of the border and Nick's family on his trail, Erickson says the idea for season 3 is to
create opposing forces on either side of the border and see what happens when they end up in conflict and what happens if our family is on opposite sides of the conflict."
Dillane, Garcia, and Caulfield's season 3 co-stars will include Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Colman Domingo, Mercedes Mason, and possibly Ruben Blades.
Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC airwaves later this year.
