Emily Blunt was originally cast as Black Widow in IRON MAN 2 before having to drop out due to a scheduling conflict with GULLIVER'S TRAVELS, and she also turned down a part in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. Now there have been rumors Marvel may want her to play Captain Marvel in their upcoming film, but has the studio contacted her about playing the character, and is the actress even interested in the role?
While speaking with Screen Crush, Emily Blunt says she's heard the internet buzz ("Someone told me this morning, my brother, actually. They call it fan casting?"), but says no one from Marvel has reached out to her. However, she does say if it's a great role, she might be up for playing Captain Marvel.
I think, it’s always for me, it’s always about—and now, more so—what am I putting out there? What would be interesting for me and what would be interesting for people to see. So, if it’s an awesome part, it doesn’t matter if it’s a Marvel movie or a tiny movie, I’d be up for it.
After the site told her she'd "be a hero for every 10-year-old girl out there right now," if she landed the role, and it'll be Marvel's first solo movie featuring one of their female superheroes as the lead, Emily Blunt sounded a little more interested in possibly playing Captain Marvel.
Really? Then that’s huge…How awesome. I love this. No one has actually called me about it, so, we’ll hold our breath.
Personally, I think Emily Blunt would be fantastic as Captain Marvel, especially after seeing her kicking all sorts of ass in EDGE OF TOMORROW. Do you think she's the right actress for the part, or would you rather see someone else play Captain Marvel?
CAPTAIN MARVEL is set to open on July 6, 2018.
