Emily Blunt still wants to do a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow

EDGE OF TOMORROW is arguably one of the best sci-fi/action films to come out in the last few years and since its release in 2014, talks of a sequel have lived, died & repeated much like Tom Cruise in the film. From what I can gather, director Doug Liman & Cruise are game for a sequel and now another star of the film, Emily Blunt, is hoping that the "stars align" for the sequel to finally happen.

Doug Liman has allegedly pegged down a good story with the help of Matt Robinson (THE INVENTION OF LYING). While speaking with "IndieWire", Blunt hoped that now that they feel like they've nailed a good story for a sequel, things can get rolling on make it all happen:

"I think there’s an idea, that he says is great, and he says this guy came in and cracked the case. How the stars will all align for us to be able to do it. I don’t know. I hope they do."

Getting to play bad-ass Sergeant Rita Vrataski again would be pretty exciting for Blunt who went on to express how much fun she had doing it the first time around:

"I absolutely adored it. It broke my body in half, but I’d be willing to do it again to work with those boys who I love. So let’s see."

While attending the premiere for A QUIET PLACE: PART II, Blunt joked that if the sequel didn't happen soon, Cruise & herself may be a bit too old to take it on and might need a little digital assistance to make the action believable:

"Tom and I are going to be 70 before we make another one It’s going to look a bit weird. We’ll have to do a real flashforward one…We’ll go full Irishman, it’ll be the Irishman version of Edge of Tomorrow. Who knows? I hope, I’m going to talk to Doug about it."

While EDGE OF TOMORROW wasn't a huge hit but blockbuster standards, the film still grossed $370.5 million worldwide on a budge of $178 million. The domestic take was just $100.2 million but considering the film opened with $28.7 million, the film showed decent legs due to great reviews & solid word of mouth. The film found even more life once it became available on blu-ray so it definitely made Warner Bros. interested in pursuing a sequel. Tom Cruise is busy cranking out more MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE sequels but we all know the man is a movie robot so I'm sure he'll have it in him to explore this world again when he has time.
