Every year, we have a new record for best-selling novels. Recently, we have seen massive successes like THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and GONE GIRL become box office hits. The next on that list is THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN. Based on the novel by Paula Hawkins, THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN is developing under the guidance of THE HELP's Tate Taylor. Now, he may have found his star in Emily Blunt.
The GIRL ON THE TRAIN has become the fastest selling adult novel in history, selling two million copies in the United States since it debuted in January. It has ranked at the top of the New York Times bestseller's list for eighteen weeks.
The story follows Rachel, a woman devastated by her recent divorce who spends her commute fantasizing about a seemingly perfect couple who live in a house that her train passes every day. One morning, she sees something shocking there and becomes entangled in a mystery.
Blunt has been in demand recently with rumors of meetings with Marvel, presumably about CAPTAIN MARVEL. She next appears in SICARIO and is filming THE HUNSTMAN with Chris Hemsworth. Blunt was also a standout in last year's EDGE OF TOMORROW. On top of all that she is pretty easy on the eyes which makes her the whole package.
THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN, based on the sales of the novel alone, will be a box office hit. Dreamworks now needs to determine if they want the gross from making the movie or if they want it to replicate the success of GONE GIRL and potentially garner Blunt awards consideration. There is no release date set for the movie, but expect it to go intro production sooner rather than later.
