Legendary horror host Elvira is crossing the streams! Just last week, she hosted the Elvira’s 40th Anniversary, Very Scary, Very Special Special movie marathon on the Shudder streaming service, and now it has been revealed that she’s teaming up with the Netflix streaming service for a series of “Dr. Elvira” videos that will be posted on Netflix’s social media accounts (like their YouTube channel) every Sunday throughout the month of October. The first video in this series is embedded above.
The Dr. Elvira videos help promote Netflix’s “Netflix & Chills” programming line-up. To learn more about the films and shows Netflix will be releasing this month, click HERE.
As the title of the Shudder special mentions, 2021 marks the 40th anniversary of Elvira. Fright-Rags is celebrating the anniversary with a clothing line, and Elvira herself marked the occasion with the release of a memoir titled Yours Cruelly, Elvira: Memoirs of the Mistress of the Dark last week. The woman behind the icon known as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, the undisputed Queen of Halloween, reveals her full story, filled with intimate bombshells, told by the bombshell herself.
Back in 2018, Elvira (a.k.a. Cassandra Peterson) said that Netflix and Shudder had both turned down her pitch to revive her horror show Elvira’s Movie Macabre. Three years later, she’s working with both of them, and I’m very happy to see that she’s receiving so much attention this year. I grew up watching her host movies, so she’ll always have a special place in my horror-loving heart.
The movies shown during the Shudder special were her own feature film Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, which she starred in back in 1988, plus House on Haunted Hill (1959), The City of the Dead (1960), and Messiah of Evil (1973).
