Marvel's Daredevil is currently shooting its second season in NYC and will be bringing several fan favourite characters with it when the show returns to Netflix in 2016. We already knew that Jon Bernthal will be appearing as The Punisher but the roles of Elektra and Bullseye have yet to have been cast. Thanks to Marvel's latest press release we can finally put a face to one of the new major characters as it was announced today that Elodie Yung has been cast in the role of Elektra.
Head of Marvel Television and Executive Producer of Daredevil Jeph Joeb sang Elodie's praises:
After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity, paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.
Elektra is a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle. The character has previously been played by Jennifer Garner in both DAREDEVIL and ELEKTRA, but I think most of us would like to pretend those films never existed. Elodie Yung is no stranger to red-clad ninjas, having played the similarly attired Jinx in G.I. JOE: RETALIATION. I'm still making my way through the first season of the series and have been quite enjoying it so far, but I guess I'd better catch up before Daredevil returns to Netflix in 2016.
Fans of Daredevil, speak up and be heard, what do you make of this casting news?
