Production on Elizabeth Banks' CHARLIE'S ANGELS reboot got underway back in September and Banks took to Instagram today to declare that the film has now wrapped. Starring Kristen Stewart (PERSONAL SHOPPER), Naomi Scott (POWER RANGERS), and Ella Balinska (Midsomer Murders) as the titular Angels, the new film will transform the Townsend Agency into a global security and intelligence service which has teams all around the world.
In addition to directing and co-writing the film, Elizabeth Banks will also be appearing as Bosley, or rather, one version of Bosley. In the original TV series, John Bosley was the man who assisted the Angel's on their assignments, but the reboot will find Patrick Stewart (LOGAN), Djimon Hounsou (CAPTAIN MARVEL) and Banks all playing individuals named Bosley. Kristen Stewart has previously said that the new film won't be doing an impression of the previous CHARLIE'S ANGELS movies which starred Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Li, adding that Elizabeth Banks has her own unique vision for the story which will be a step forward for women.
It is true I think, it is not maybe everyone's immediate response that it would be, like, something we would have to see again because the one I grew up with was so much fun. The re-imagining is so grounded and well intentioned and really shows the way women can work together now. It tries to be warm and funny, but it lacks a kitch element that we have seen before that works so well.
CHARLIE'S ANGELS is set for a November 1, 2019 release.
