Elizabeth Olsen teases a 1950s setting for WandaVision series on Disney+

Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) may have given their all and lost everything at the hands of Thanos in INFINITY WAR, but Marvel and Disney still have big plans for the duo by giving them their own Disney+ series, WandaVision. We know little about the new series other than that it will star the two actors as their MCU characters and that slightly confounding title, but Olsen recently teased a new tidbit of information that hints the series could be set back in a time when Captain America was only an adolescent popsicle.

While talking to Variety on the purple carpet premiere for AVENGERS: ENDGAME, she revealed that she had been shown a photo of the two characters in the 1950s. “There’s quite a few other comic books that we’re pulling from and it’s going to be Wanda and the Vision, and I think at the Disney+ launch chat, they showed a photo of us in the ’50s,” she said.

She continued, saying “Paul [Bettany] and I are really excited. They have a great group of writers. I think it’s going to be a total of six hours.”

Both were introduced in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, and as they do in the comics the two form a romantic bond that was explored in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and then AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, where they both fell at the hands of Thanos. Now the two are getting their chance to shine in a story all their own. How a 1950s setting would be handled will be part of the mystery, and in execution would make for an interesting approach. Like, would they share a malt and go to Make Out Lake?

CAPTAIN MARVEL writer Jac Schaeffer will writer, produce and be showrunner on the series, which was one of the first in a series of new show announcements surrounding the MCU and set for Disney+. At the event revealing the service it was confirmed, there’s also series around Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Falcon and Winter Soldier (Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) in the works. Olsen said filming is set to begin in fall, which we can gather means the series may hit Disney+ sometime in 2020.

As always, approach details like this with a bit of caution until everything is confirmed by Marvel or Disney, which may not be long if they intend to start production in the fall. How the characters would find themselves in the 50s, should this be true, is anyone's guess, and what they would be doing there is even more of a stretch of the imagination. I assume some of those thick Buicks will be involved somehow.
