Yesterday, Marvel confirmed the casting of Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen for THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and today Moviefone revealed Olsen's take on her character, Scarlet Witch, and just how excited she is to be a part of Joss Whedon's sequel. Thus far, we haven't heard much from Olsen about her involvement with the film, but now that the cat's out of the bag she can at least acknowledge the role and some tidbits about it. Here's what she had to say in regards to playing the famed superhero:
On where she's at with THE AVENGERS sequel:
I hung out with Mr. Whedon recently. I'm really excited about this movie. I'm so excited about Scarlet Witch. I have had so much fun reading all about her and I am like learning new words that I had to look up on Wikipedia. I'm really enjoying it.
On what excites her the most about being in the film:
I just love Scarlet Witch. I love her. It's so funny because I'm often talking about all these psychologically damaged people, but when you talk about Scarlet Witch… She is a messed up lady. She has got more sh*t to deal with than anybody else I know. I'm excited to figure out what's appropriate to use for her, because there's so much material from all of these decades, and we're going to tell this one story. So to be able to choose what you're going to bring into it from all of this abundance, it's really fun.
Scarlet Witch is a fairly controversial character in the comics. The daughter of Magneto, (which won't be addressed in THE AVENGERS sequel for obvious reasons) Wanda Maximoff, has dealt some serious damage to the Marvel universe, particularly with her "no more mutants" spell during House of M, which erradicated the creation of any more mutants in the comics and has had a romantic relationship with the Vision as well. Olsen is on the money when she says she's dealing with a "messed up lady." And then some.
Elizabeth Olsen can be seen in OLDBOY, opening Wednesday, November 27th, next year in Gareth Edwards' GODZILLA on May 16, 2014, and finally as the Scarlet Witch in THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON on May 01, 2015.
