Elizabeth Olsen isn’t pushing for a Scarlet Witch solo movie

Marvel has been making great strides to include more female heroes in their films, with women stealing the show in BLACK PANTHER, CAPTAIN MARVEL on the horizon with Brie Larson, and talk of a Black Widow movie being in the works. Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) has been with the series since 2015, and one wouldn’t be silly to think she could get her own solo movie at some point too. Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to be something Marvel currently has in the works, but Olsen seems perfectly fine with that.

During a recent interview on the Everything Iconic with Danny Pellegrino podcast, Olsen was asked about if and when we could see a Scarlet Witch solo outing. Olsen said they are at “ground zero” with any sort of film and that it’s something neither she or Marvel seems to be pushing for, at least right now.

We are at ground zero. …It’s definitely not something I’m pushing, and I don’t know if it’s something that [Marvel is] going to push either. Paul Bettany [who plays Vision] and I joked about having a domestic television show on Netflix or something, and it would just be like a house event where Scarlet Witch goes bananas. That’s what we joke about, but I don’t think any of those things are happening. But I’m happy that I’m still around and they still use me well – and that’s fine.

Audiences first got to see Wanda and her brother Pietro (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) in the second AVENGERS movie, and though her brother bit the bullet, she has since become a full-fledged member of the team. We last saw her in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and will be in the next two AVENGERS movies. I mean, I assume she’s in the fourth AVENGERS movie, but lord knows who will get theirs in the upcoming AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR.

Olsen has talked about a Witch solo movie in the past, saying she was open to it as long as it proved necessary to the Marvel world and advanced the story somehow. That was back in 2016, and perhaps she is still down to do a movie under those conditions. Or, maybe, she's just cool with getting to do the whole hero business with the entire gang. It's like super expensive camp with a lot of green screens and colorful costumes!

Scarlet Witch is a popular character in the Marvel canon, but she hasn’t really had a lot of time to be fleshed out in this run of movies. She’s only ever been one part of a large team and has never gotten the chance to do her own thing, or even something as small as go on an adventure with just one other character. Depending on how things go after these next two AVENGERS movies, maybe she and Vision can have their own film together. Think of it as a Marvel honeymoon movie, wherein the two get married but have to fight off a villain at Niagra Falls.

Catch Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR which arrives April 27.
