After months of rumors, we finally have the last piece of the casting puzzle as Elizabeth Olsen has confirmed she will appear as Scarlet Witch in Joss Whedon‘s THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. This news comes a week after Aaron Taylor-Johnson closed his deal to play Quicksilver in the film. The two will join James Spader as Ultron as the three new cast-members for Disney and Marvel’s mega-sequel.
In an interview with MTV, Olsen let slip the news that she will be playing Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch.
“We get to play husband and wife, and we get to play twin brother and sister,” she said. “It’s also fun because even though in ‘Godzilla’ we play husband and wife, we don’t have a lot of scenes together. I just love him. I love his family. I love his kids. I’m so excited…to actually work with each other. I think it’s going to be fun.”
THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON has a huge cast already with the returning Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johannson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, and Samuel L. Jackson. It remains to be seen if any of the new supporting cast from THOR: THE DARK WORLD or CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER will also appear in THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, but I would say at the very least we may see Anthony Mackie as Falcon, assuming his recent DWI doesn’t impact his relationship with Disney.
The cast has come together with a basic plot about Ultron that should make for quite the summer spectacle when THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON kicks off a busy summer movie season on May 1, 2015.
