Just a couple days ago, it was announced that Elisabeth Moss will be starring in and executive producing a psychosexual neo-noir thriller anthology series called Black Match for Hulu. Now it has been announced that she will also be starring in and executive producing a metaphysical thriller series called The Shining Girls for Apple.
Based on a 2013 novel by Lauren Beukes (you can pick up a copy HERE), The Shining Girls is being written by Silka Luisa, who will also serve as showrunner and executive producer. The story centers on
a Depression-era drifter who must murder the “shining girls” in order to continue his travels.
Moss's character will be
a Chicago reporter who survived a brutal assault only to find her reality shifting as she hunts down her attacker.
The description of the novel offers some more details:
Harper Curtis is a killer who stepped out of the past. Kirby Mazrachi is the girl who was never meant to have a future. Kirby is the last shining girl, one of the bright young women, burning with potential, whose lives Harper is destined to snuff out after he stumbles on a House in Depression-era Chicago that opens on to other times.
At the urging of the House, Harper inserts himself into the lives of these shining girls, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. He's the ultimate hunter, vanishing without a trace into another time after each murder — until one of his victims survives.
Determined to bring her would-be killer to justice, Kirby joins the Chicago Sun-Times to work with the reporter, Dan Velasquez, who covered her case. Soon Kirby finds herself closing in on an impossible truth…
Moss will be executive producing, along with Lindsey McManus, through her newly formed company Love & Squalor Pictures. Beukes and Alan Page Arriaga are also on board as executive producers, and Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson will be executive producing through Appian Way. The project is set up at MRC Television.
Moss's recent genre work includes US (watch it HERE) and THE INVISIBLE MAN (available HERE). In addition to Black Match and The Shining Girls, she has also signed on to star in a thriller called RUN RABBIT RUN, so fans of the actress can look forward to seeing her make her way through multiple thrilling situations in the near future.
