Elisabeth Moss clarifies: ‘I’m not The Invisible Man’

Blumhouse Productions and writer/director Leigh Whannell are teaming up to reboot the classic Universal property THE INVISIBLE MAN, and so far the only announced cast member Elisabeth Moss… which has stirred up some confusion over whether or not this is really THE INVISIBLE MAN, or if it's THE INVISIBLE WOMAN, with Moss playing the title character.

Moss started that speculation herself in an interview with BuzzFeed where she said,

I think it's an incredible story that maybe needs to to be retold, but maybe with a woman. I'm not saying I'm doing it. I'm just saying that theoretically, that would be a great idea."

Now Moss has used an interview with The Hollywood Reporter as a chance to clear up the confusion, confirming that THE INVISIBLE MAN will have an invisible man, and it's not her.

I haven’t gotten into what I’m allowed to say, yet. I’m pretty sure I can say that I’m not The Invisible Man. That would be weird. It’s a little bit of a different take on it. Part of the reason why I wanted to do it is I actually felt like it was a really feminist story of female empowerment and a victim kind of overcoming something. I don’t even know what I’m allowed to say about it! I’m not The Invisible Man, but there is an Invisible Man — if that makes any sense."

In the same interview, Moss expresses uncertainly over whether she'll ever play a superhero or star in a CG-filled creature feature because

I don’t know how good I would be at the whole green screen thing. To be acting with nothing, I find that incredibly difficult. We’ll see."

I guess she'll be finding out how good she is at that stuff soon, because THE INVISIBLE MAN will probably have her playing scenes opposite an invisible person, "acting with nothing".

Moss's character in THE INVISIBLE MAN is said to be named Cecilia Kass. Armie Hammer and Alexander Skarsgard are a couple of the actors who are up for the role of Adrian Griffin,

a billionaire sociopath who made his money by developing an invisibility suit for the Department of Defense.

THE INVISIBLE MAN will be filming in Whannell's home country of Australia. A release date has not yet been announced.
