It was back in May of 2012 when we first told you about Eugenio Mira's GRAND PIANO, a new thriller from BURIED producers Adrian Guerra and Rodrigo Cortes that was being described as "SPEED at a piano" and was set to star Elijah Wood. A few weeks later we learned that John Cusack had joined on to co-star in the film, followed by the announcement that Alex Winter (Bill S. Preston, Esquire!), Kerry Bishe, Allen Leach, Don McManus and Tamsin Egerton had all signed on for the Hitchcockian thriller that would find Wood playing…
a once-great concert pianist who suffers from stage fright and comes back to perform after a five-year hiatus. Just when he's about to play the first bar, he notices somebody has written a threatening note on his music sheet. He's now forced to play his best concert ever to save his life as well as his wife's. In short: if he misses a single note, they're both dead.
Now we have news that GRAND PIANO will be the opening film of the 46th edition of the Sitges Film Festival, which will take place this year between October 11-20. Could this mean we'll potentially see an early 2014 theatrical release for the film? Let's hope so because the concept is pretty intriguing and I'd love to see how Mira ratchets up the tension with this unusual story.
We'll keep you posted with news regarding GRAND PIANO as we hear it.
