For me, Charles Bronson, star of the original DEATH WISH franchise, will always be Paul Kersey. There's no way Bruce Willis, especially not modern Bruce Willis, is going to be able to match classic Bronson. But in the newly released trailer for the DEATH WISH remake, Willis is trying awfully hard to live up to Bronson's legacy – in this film, his Kersey even gets his hands on a level of weaponry Bronson's Kersey wasn't toting until DEATH WISH 3.
Written by Joe Carnahan and based on both the 1974 DEATH WISH film and the 1972 novel by Brian Garfield, this version of DEATH WISH was directed by Eli Roth (CABIN FEVER, HOSTEL).
The story:
Dr. Paul Kersey is a surgeon who only sees the aftermath of his city’s violence when it is rushed into his ER – until his wife and college-age daughter are viciously attacked in their suburban home. With the police overloaded with crimes, Paul, burning for revenge, hunts his family’s assailants to deliver justice. As the anonymous slayings of criminals grabs the media’s attention, the city wonders if this deadly avenger is a guardian angel or a grim reaper.
Willis's co-stars include Vincent D'Onofrio, Dean Norris, Kimberly Elise, Mike Epps, Beau Knapp, Ronnie Gene Blevins, Camila Morrone, and Elisabeth Shue.
I'm not expecting a whole lot from this remake, but I hope it will at least be entertaining. This new trailer makes it look promising in that regard.
DEATH WISH is scheduled to reach theatres on March 2, 2018.
