Sarah Adina Smith's supernaturally tinged psychodrama THE MIDNIGHT SWIM will be taking the plunge into theaters and on VOD this June under production/distribution outfit Candy Factory Films Electric Candy releasing arm, reports our brothers-in-blood over at Fango.
We first brought you word on THE MIDNIGHT SWIM back in July of last year when we shared the first trailer for the Fantasia 2014 selection with you. Since that time the film has been running around the festival circuit, garnering some postive buzz. I'm certainly curious to check this oneout when Electric Candy brings it to theaters and VOD on June 26. Here's what we know:
When their mother goes missing in Spirit Lake, three half-sisters travel home to settle her affairs. The youngest sister, June (Lindsay Burge), a documentary filmmaker, captures their bittersweet homecoming. But when the sisters jokingly summon a local ghost, their relationship begins to unravel and they find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into the true mystery of the lake. Transporting its audience to a place drenched in the supernatural, THE MIDNIGHT SWIM is an eerie, atmospheric exploration of the inexplicable pull towards the unknown.
THE MIDNIGHT SWIM is said to be reminiscent of the Aussie classic PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK, which intrigues the hell out of me as PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK is one of the eeriest and most haunting films I've ever seen.
The film stars Lindsey Burdge, Jennifer Lafleur, Aleksa Palladino, Beth Grant and Ross Partridge. Look for it in theaters and on VOD June 26.
