The first full-length trailer for THE WOLVERINE is out on Wednesday but until then there are several new images and posters to help curb your Logan cravings.
EW had a First Look with director James Mangold where he shared these eight new images from THE WOLVERINE and talked a little about the film. There hasn’t been too many pictures released of Hugh Jackman‘s supporting cast but in these new images we get a good look at Svetlana Khodchenkova as Viper as well as Tao Okamoto as Mariko (a woman Wolverine is trying to protect) and Rila Fukushima as Yukio, a woman who Wolverine becomes friends with while in Japan.
Take a look at the pictures posted below and the comments from James Mangold and Hugh Jackman. They talk about each character, how the film starts, and one of the themes for THE WOLVERINE so be warned it’s a little spoilerish.
On why Wolverine is protecting Markio: ”At the time this movie opens, there’s a kind of gangland war going on between law enforcement and the Yakuza, and there’s been a lot of kidnappings and extortion. So she’s someone who’s under threat.”
The villain Viper: ”As her name would imply, she’s kind of snakelike. She likes to play with toxins. She’s immune to toxins. She’s kind of formidable.”
”Viper views Logan like a great hunter might view hunting a lion in his quarry. There’s kind of an admiration, a desire to destroy and a desire to consume and to have and to hold.”
How Yukio and Wolverine connect: “I would say they have a unique relationship. She’s lethal herself.”
Mangold adds this about Yukio’s fighting skills: ”She’s a tremendous fighter.”
On Yukio’s style: ”I think she’s both sexy and almost kind of sprung from the anime world. It’s a real badass character.”
Mangold on the fight scenes in the movie: ”There’s an urgency and a kind of intensity and hand to hand physicality to the fighting that I hope is a little different than everything else out there.”
This one comes from Hugh Jackman and he talks about one of the themes for THE WOLVERINE: ”He realizes everyone he loves dies, and his whole life is full of pain. So it’s better that he just escapes. He can’t die really. He just wants to get away from everything.”
Then over at Empire there are two new posters for THE WOLVERINE and both have a shirtless, screaming Logan smack dab in the middle:
James Mangold said that a ton of stuff related to THE WOLVERINE was going to be released towards the end of March and so far he hasn’t disappointed. As previously mentioned the trailer is out on Wednesday (you’ll be able to see a teaser for the trailer tomorrow) but there’s still a bit of a wait before we really get to see Logan in action again when THE WOLVERINE hits theaters July 26th, 2013.
