Guillermo del Toro is a busy boy. He just commenced production on his fantastical Cold War flick THE SHAPE OF WATER, and he has a dozen other irons in the fire, including the Netflix animated series Trollhunters, an adaptation of SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK, and half a dozen other huge projects. Some of his directorial duties have been sloughed off to others, including PACIFIC RIM 2, now being directed by Steven S. DeKnight.
But one of his other up-in-the-air projects was believed to be completely dead: JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK. Well, it takes more than that to kill a superhero. The project, which was previously believed to be turning to the animated route, has been resurrected with a new director at the helm: EDGE OF TOMORROW's Doug Liman.
Liman, who also directed JUMPER and GO, has left the GAMBIT project he was previously attached to, but he found a new comic property to call a home. In the film, the plot details of which are being kept under wraps:
the story revolves around a dark Justice League team that consists of John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon.
The film will supposedly play a major role in the DC film universe, which just scored a big hit with SUICIDE SQUAD. The script is being written by Michael Gilio. The film is being produced by Scott Rudin.
