Those looking forward to Edgar Wright's next feature, LAST NIGHT IN SOHO, might be disappointed to hear that the film has been delayed until next year. Originally, Focus Features had set a release date of September 25 for the Anya Taylor-Joy-fronted thriller, though due to complications stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the film will now make its debut on April 23, 2021.
Wright tweeted out the new release date on Tuesday morning, revealing to fans that he's still in the midst of completing the film: “Haunted by someone else’s past, but we’ll see you in the future… It’s true, #LastNightInSoho is not quite finished yet due to Covid 19. But, I’m excited for you all to experience it, at a big screen near you, on April 23, 2021.”
In LAST NIGHT IN SOHO, a young girl, passionate about fashion design, is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer. But 1960s London is not what it seems, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences.
Led by EMMA's Anya Taylor-Joy, the time-altering tale of terror also stars Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie (JOJO RABBIT), Matt Smith (DOCTOR WHO, MORBIUS), Michael Ajao, Synnøve Karlsen, Diana Rigg, Terence Stamp, and Rita Tushingham. In addition to serving as the film's director, Wright also co-wrote the script with Penny Dreadful writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns.
While delays are assuredly a drag, Wright has always struck me as a filmmaker worth waiting for. Here's hoping that LAST NIGHT IN SOHO arrives as a real banger, once a brand new year comes charging over the horizon.
