An Edgar Wright film is always something to look forward to in my book, and his latest took another step forward as the director announced on Twitter that he has now wrapped main-unit photography on LAST NIGHT IN SOHO. Wright also included a tantalizing image from the film, which you can check out below.
We still don't know all that much about LAST NIGHT IN SOHO, other than it will be a psychological thriller set in London. Edgar Wright has mentioned both Nicolas Roeg's DON'T LOOK NOW and Roman Polanski's REPULSION as influences on LAST NIGHT IN SOHO. "I realised I had never made a film about central London – specifically Soho, somewhere I’ve spent a huge amount of time in the last 25 years," Wright said. "With Hot Fuzz and Shaun Of The Dead you make movies about places you’ve lived in. This movie is about the London I’ve existed in." In addition to directing, Edgar Wright also co-wrote the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (Penny Dreadful), and the film stars Anya Taylor-Joy (GLASS), Thomasin McKenzie (LEAVE NO TRACE), Matt Smith (The Crown), Michael Ajao (ATTACK THE BLOCK), Synnøve Karlsen (Medici), Diana Rigg (Game of Thrones), Terence Stamp (MURDER MYSTERY), and Rita Tushingham (BEING JULIA).
As far as plot details regarding LAST NIGHT IN SOHO, those are in short supply, but rumours have pointed to the film taking place in two different time periods – the '60s and the modern day. Set photos have confirmed the '60s setting, but I suppose we'll learn more soon. Although it isn't official, it's also been said that Anya Taylor-Joy's character will be the lead in the '60s section with Matt Smith playing a manager of sorts to her character and Thomasin McKenzie playing a fashion student in the modern day. Either way, I'm excited for a new Edgar Wright film.
LAST NIGHT IN SOHO will hit theaters on September 25, 2020.
