Despite the fact that he had not one but two movies out in 2021, director Edgar Wright made a vow to watch a movie a day this year and almost made good. In the end, he was thirty-five movies shy but decided to share his complete list on Twitter nevertheless. Check out his full list of films below:
It’s always interesting to see what a guy like Edgar Wright watches in his downtime. The list is pretty eclectic, with him keeping up on most new releases, including Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Matrix Resurrections, Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar, and more. But, what’s intriguing is the fact that Wright also included a movie that hasn’t come out yet – Top Gun: Maverick. He also included some off-kilter choices, such as the Tsui Hark Jean-Claude Van Damme outing Knock Off (1998), although that can perhaps be explained but the fact that the score for the film was by none other than Sparks, a band he loves so much he made a movie about them (The Sparks Brothers).
Now that the year is drawing to a close, I expect to see many such lists, and truth be told, I’m bummed that I’ve never stuck to making a viewing diary of my own. As the managing editor of JoBlo (and one of its critics), I watch a ton of stuff, and every year I try to commit to keeping a running tab but never make it. I bet I probably watched roughly a movie a day in 2021, but who knows. I’d probably be too embarrassed to show a full list of what I watched to anyone, so good on Wright for showing his.
