Edgar Wright has a pitch for the next James Bond movie

Edgar Wright, James Bond, Daniel Craig, No Time to Die

With No Time To Die now playing in theatres, Daniel Craig’s run as James Bond has come to an end. Franchise producer Barbara Broccoli has said that they won’t begin their search for the next Bond until 2022, but in addition to the many actors who would love to play the secret agent, there’s an equally long list of people who want to direct Bond’s next outing. Last Night in Soho writer/director Edgar Wright is one of those people, and he already has a pitch for next James Bond movie.

While speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Edgar Wright explained that he has a pitch for the next James Bond movie, but wouldn’t exactly elaborate on what it is.

I think Daniel Craig has so made an indelible stamp on that franchise that I think you have to go in a slightly different direction. Because I don’t think there’s anything to be gained by continuing in the same vein, and I would certainly think that it would be interesting to try and – I mean, I do have a take, which ever they ask me, I’ll definitely pitch it to them. [Laughs] So I’m not going to say it on the podcast. But I do think that, when I sometimes see some of the names being bandied around, I can’t quite see it, in terms of to me they feel like Daniel Craig 2.

Edgar Wright added: “My theory is that the Bonds have got to be like dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and I think you’ve got to alternate.” I certainly don’t envy anyone following in the footsteps of Daniel Craig, but I do agree with Wright; now would be a good chance to try something different. I almost feel like a modern-day Roger Moore take on Bond might be fun after Craig’s much more gritty take on the character.

Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho will hit theatres on October 29th, and you can check out a review from our own Chris Bumbray right here.
