SHAUN OF THE DEAD director Edgar Wright has the first draft of a sequel to his most recent film BABY DRIVER written up, but before he gets to that project he's going to do something that's a little out of the ordinary for him: he's going to make a horror movie absent of the comedy he's known for.
Speaking with Empire, Wright said that his next movie is a "straight-up psychological horror thriller" that's influenced by the likes of DON'T LOOK NOW and REPULSION. He's keeping plot details secret at the moment, but he did reveal that he wrote the script with Krysty Wilson-Cairns, the film will have a female lead, and the story is set in London.
In an interview that can be read in this month's issue of Empire magazine, Wright says,
I realised I had never made a film about central London – specifically Soho, somewhere I've spent a huge amount of time in the last 25 years. With Hot Fuzz and Shaun Of The Dead you make movies about places you've lived in. This movie is about the London I’ve existed in."
This currently mysterious project is set to begin filming in the summer.
Wright has proven to be a huge genre fan, so I'm excited to see what he'll do when crafting a straight horror film rather than a comedic one.
We'll keep you updated on this one as more information is made available.
