We've already got one Dwayne Johnson movie playing in theaters with another set to hit later this summer, and the actor is set to begin filming his next feature in May. The man likes to work. Johnson's next will be JUNGLE CRUISE, based upon the Disney theme-park attraction of the same name, and THR reports that Edgar Ramirez (BRIGHT) has now boarded the project.
Set in the early 20th century in the Amazon jungle, JUNGLE CRUISE will star Dwayne Johnson as a boat captain who takes a sister (Emily Blunt) and her brother (Jack Whitehall) on a mission to locate a tree which is believed to posses healing powers. THR states that Edgar Ramirez is set to play a man with "a conquistador background who is one of the story's villains." Throw in a handful of wild animals as well as a competing German expedition, and you've got the makings of one heck of an adventure. At least, that's the hope. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (THE COMMUTER) and penned by Michael Green (LOGAN), production on JUNGLE CRUISE is looking to get underway next month.
Dwayne Johnson has previously teased JUNGLE CRUISE is a "full on adventure. Think Indiana Jones — those kinds of adventures. I’m very, very excited about it," adding "This is where I really started to understand the power of Disney, just in terms of the deep dives that they do with their projects — with all of their projects, because obviously they’re a studio and publicly traded, but specifically with projects like this where it’s based off a ride and based off an beloved attraction, like Pirates [of the Caribbean], so, so much goes into the work. And it’s so exciting."
You can catch Dwayne Johnson in RAMPAGE in theaters right now (check out a review from our own Chris Bumbray), and the actor will next be seen in SKYCRAPER on July 13, 2018.
