Writer/Director Jody Hill, one of the masterminds behind the HBO show Eastbound and Down with Danny McBride, is attached to write and direct a 1970’s set American South action pic, which centers on an outlaw duo.
Sound familiar? If you’ve seen a little show (or movie, depending on your age) called Dukes of Hazzard, then it just may. Apparently, Hill is aiming to make a Sam Peckinpah inspired action flick, which sources close to the project say could very well become a reboot of The Dukes of Hazzard TV show, which ran from 1979-1985.
For those not in the know, here’s the sweet ass Dukes of Hazzard opening that I grew up on as a boy.
Ah, the memories:
And for those not versed in Peckinpah, here’s a little snippet to let you know what he was cookin’ in his day:
The decision of whether or not to make it a Hazzard reboot won’t be made until Hill completes the script, but with the original producer of the Seann William Scott/Johnny Knoxville version also producing Hill’s film, it could make the transition that much easier.
As a fan of the show (and the movie wasn’t necessarily awful), I’m down with this news. Hill also directed the movie OBSERVE AND REPORT, which I thought was great. It’s a dark horse for sure, and the only movie I’ve ever seen where Seth Rogen doesn’t play himself. It’s also surprisingly violent and crude, which I totally dig.
Whether it’s called Dukes of Hazzard or not, I’m interested to see how this plays out. I think there’s a lot of potential for a kick ass film here and I’m certainly hoping that Danny McBride takes on the role of Cooter or Boss Hog if it is a reboot.
More as this develops.
Ah, Catherine Bach…one of my first ever crushes…a classic beauty…
