So I was talking to my friend, and both of us agreed that a lot of a certain generation of geeks have experienced STAR WARS more as videogames than as movies. Which makes sense in some ways, as STAR WARS has dabbled in every single genre, including fighting games, racing games, first-person shooters, and even TWISTED METAL-esque vehicular combat games (among others). KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC even arguably popularized the use of a moral system in sprawling RPGs (that games like MASS EFFECT and INFAMOUS ran with). Hell, BATTLEFRONT is honestly, just a STAR WARS-skinned BATTLEFIELD knock-off (though a very fun, good one). Either way, I'm super excited for the new one coming out.
So, with that all in mind, here's an interview from E3 about the upcoming game. Let's take a look:
While it is essentially a controlled Let's Play (with an interviewer either paid by EA to go off talking points, or a legitimate fan who is still being paid to check off talking points), the developers do talk about some interesting stuff, like new gameplay mechanics and the new heroes/locations. What's most interesting, is the way they are focused on filling the 28-year gap between RETURN OF THE JEDI and THE FORCE AWAKENS. Let's just hope they don't fuck it up (the way FORCE UNLEASHED burst enough plot holes to turn STAR WARS continuity into swiss cheese). Although we can just ignore the games, the way we've ignored that the first Jedi game after THE PHANTOM MENACE gave Mace Windu a blue lightsaber (and another Jedi a yellow one). So, I guess it doesn't really matter in the long run.
Meanwhile, STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT II will be released on consoles and PC November 11th.
