Dwight Yoakam joins season 2 of CBS series Under the Dome

The second season of the hit CBS series "Under the Dome" is set to kick off on June 30 and we've already alerted you to some casting for the sophomore season with the addition of "ER" actress Sherry Stringfield last month. Today we've got some new casting news as country artist-turned-thespian Dwight Yoakam has signed on for a multi-episode role.

THR is reporting that Yoakam will be joining the second season in the role of 'barbershop owner Lyle Chumley. The character has a complicated history with Big Jim (Dean Norris) and was once romantically linked to his late wife, Pauline (Sherry Stringfield). Lyle — oddly like Pauline — also has a mysterious connection to the Dome and very well may know the answer to its origins.'

Yoakam may be best known as a musician, having 12 Gold albums under his belt, but the guy is no slouch in the acting department, turning in one hell of a performance in Billy Bob Thornton's SLING BLADE as well as appearing in the CRANK films, PANIC ROOM, and FX's "Wilfred".

The series, which is poised to kill off two "favorites" when it returns on June 30 with its King-penned season-two premiere, has also added "CSI: NY"'s Eddie Cahill as Big Jim's brother-in-law Sam; "Misfits" Karla Crome as Rebecca, a teacher; newcomer Grace Victoria Cox as Melanie, a potential love interest for Joe (Colin Ford).

UNDER THE DOME tells the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. The town's inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers to what this barrier is, where it came from, and if and when it will go away.

"Under the Dome" starts its second run on June 30th.
