In a few years' time, Dwayne Johnson may ask the American people to smell what he's cooking while on the campaign trail. That's right, folks. Dwayne Johnson has stated that he'd seriously consider running for President of the United States if that's what the people want.
Johnson recently told USA Today as much while talking up his new autobiographical NBC sitcom Young Rock. Set to premiere on NBC later tonight (8 EST/PST), the show revolves around a fictionalized version of the actor who campaigns for president in 2032. This being the case, it was only a matter of time before someone approached the former wrestler-turned action movie star about an honest-to-goodness bid for the Oval Office.
“I would consider a presidential run in the future if that’s what the people wanted,” Johnson told USA Today.“Truly I mean that and I’m not flippant in any way with my answer. That would be up to the people… So I would wait, and I would listen. I would have my finger on the pulse, my ear to the ground,” he added.
Of course, this is not the first time that the idea of Johnson running for President of the United States has come up. Back in 2017, the eight circles wearing Under Armor said a bid for the White House was "a real possibility."
“A year ago, it started coming up more and more,” Johnson explained to GQ at the time. “There was a real sense of earnestness, which made me go home and think, ‘Let me really rethink my answer and make sure I am giving an answer that is truthful and also respectful.’ I didn’t want to be flippant — ‘We’ll have three days off for a weekend! No taxes!'”
While I do feel that the United States of America does have more pressing matters to tend to at any given time, I would like to hear more about this three-day-weekend proposal. After all, Fridays are only good for an evening and Sunday is merely a ticking time bomb until Monday. Give me Thursday or give me death, right? Oh, and let's cancel student debt once and for all while we're at it.
Would you be up for smelling what the President is cooking if Johnson were to run for office for real? Should celebrities with no real political experience stay out of such matters entirely?
