Dwayne Johnson shares first look at Idris Elba’s villain from Hobbs & Shaw

HOBBS & SHAW, the first spin-off in the FAST & FURIOUS franchise, is currently in the midst of production. The film stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, who will be reprising their roles of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, as they form an uneasy alliance while they go up against a bigger threat. It would seem that that bigger threat will come in the form of Idris Elba (STAR TREK BEYOND), who will be playing the main villain in the film.

Thanks to Dwayne Johnson posting a new image from HOBBS & SHAW on Instagram, we've got our first look at Idris Elba's character, who goes by the name Brixton. Check it out!

Idris Elba's outfit brings to mind a more stripped down version of his PACIFIC RIM outfit, but I like it! Director David Leitch told JoBlo earlier this year that instead of fast cars and heists, the spin-off will lean more into the world of the two title characters. "I'm excited to put them in crazy situations and make them survive and see where it takes them. In the universe, they come from more the spy world and the agent world and I think we want to lean into their worlds and expand their universe as well and have fun with that," Leitch said. "Look, those movies are fun and I'm a huge fan so I'm excited to take my swing at it and do my own take." In addition to Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, and Idris Elba, HOBBS & SHAW will also star Eddie Marsan (DEADPOOL 2) in an undisclosed role and Vanessa Kirby (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT) as an MI-5 agent who also happens to be Shaw’s sister.

HOBBS & SHAW is slated for an August 2, 2019 release.
