Today's go-to action star Dwayne Johnson could be on the verge of starring in and producing a new potential franchise with the upcoming adaptation of Robert Ludlum's THE JANSON DIRECTIVE. It's still in very early stages as there is no writer or director yet, but given Johnson's schedule is only getting busier by the day, if he signs on it should give the project the momentum needed to get started.
Here’s a synopsis for the first novel [via Amazon]:
When billionaire philanthropist Peter Novak is kidnapped by a terrorist known as The Caliph, it’s up to Paul Janson—a legend in the notorious U.S. covert agency Consular Operations—to save him. But Janson’s rescue operation goes horribly wrong…and soon Janson is marked for death, the target of a "beyond salvage" order issued from the highest level of the government. Now Janson is running for his life, pursued by Jessica Kincaid, a young agent of astonishing ability who can anticipate and counter his every move. To survive, Janson must outrace a conspiracy that has gone beyond the control of its originators. To win, he must counter it with a conspiracy of his own.
Johnson is currently filming a new action film, SAN ANDREAS, HERCULES is here in a few weeks, and he’s got FAST AND FURIOUS 7 early next year, G.I. JOE 3 and more. This is why he calls himself "franchise Viagra". It's great to watch Johnson’s star rise each year; the man has certainly paid his dues with movies like DOOM and TOOTH FAIRY. I wouldn’t say that to the man's face of course, seriously one of his legs is as big as me. I hope he takes this one on though; he has done some great ensemble work but I think he's ready to headline his own movies now. That or do a Rock 'n' Sock Connection movie already.
