Although Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt's JUNGLE CRUISE has been delayed until 2021, the duo is already setting up their next on-screen pairing together. The performers will play a bickering couple who receive superpowers in the film BALL AND CHAIN, based on the four-part comic book published in 1999.
The script is by Emily V. Gordon, who co-wrote THE BIG SICK & the story follows Edgar and Mallory Bulson, who have decided to throw in the towel on their marriage. Separation is all but certain until a mysterious meteor bathes the battling couple in extraterrestrial energies that give them super-powers. The only catch is they only work if they can learn to put aside their differences and work together.
Johnson and Blut have already worked together on the aforementioned JUNGLE CRUISE which was set for release this July but was pushed to July of next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to "Deadline", there is a huge bidding war for BALL AND CHAIN and many studios are interested in the project. As of now, Netflix is pulling out ahead as the likely destination for the film.
This sounds like a fun pairing for the duo. Haven't fully seen their on-screen chemistry together outside of the trailers for JUNGLE CRUISE but I'm sure the banter between the two will give this project a much-needed spark. Are YOU interested in BALL AND CHAIN? We have to wait until July 30, 2021, to see their first pairing together when JUNGLE CRUISE is set to hit the big screen.
