With eight films and over $5 billion in worldwide box-office, the FAST & FURIOUS franchise has become one of the most successful movie franchises of all-time, and we're about to receive our first spin-off. The upcoming HOBBS & SHAW will be centered around Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw and is set to be directed by David Leitch, which seems to promise that we're in store for some stand-out action. Production on the spin-off is currently underway, and Dwayne Johnson took to Instagram to post a new image from the film which finds the two main characters facing off.
Director David Leitch told JoBlo earlier this year that instead of fast cars and heists, the spin-off will lean more into the world of the two title characters. "I'm excited to put them in crazy situations and make them survive and see where it takes them. In the universe, they come from more the spy world and the agent world and I think we want to lean into their worlds and expand their universe as well and have fun with that," Leitch said. "Look, those movies are fun and I'm a huge fan so I'm excited to take my swing at it and do my own take." In addition to Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, HOBBS & SHAW will also star Idris Elba (STAR TREK BEYOND) as the main villain and Vanessa Kirby (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT) as an MI-5 agent who also happens to be Shaw’s sister.
HOBBS & SHAW will hit theaters on August 2, 2019.
