Typically, Dwayne Johnson is just about the biggest part of any movie he's in, but the upcoming RAMPAGE may find Johnson meeting his match in the form of several gigantic genetically altered animals, including an extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla named George who has been in the care of Dwayne Johnson's character since birth. Based upon the 80's arcade-game of the same name, RAMPAGE will follow Davis Okoye (Dwayne Johnson) and a discredited genetic engineer (Naomie Harris) as they team up in order to secure an antidote and bring a halt to a global catastrophe when a trio of giant genetically altered alpha predators run amok and begin destroying everything in their path. In anticipation of the first trailer, which will be released tomorrow, the first RAMPAGE poster has been unleashed. Check it out below and click to embiggen!
Director Brad Peyton previously helmed SAN ANDREAS, which also starred Dwayne Johnson, but the actor recently said that RAMPAGE will be quite a bit more intense. "You have to ratchet up the dial 10 times with Rampage," Johnson said. "These monsters are relentless, and audiences are going to find that ride very exhilarating. As an actor in the movie, it’s fun and daunting. It’s 12- to 14-hour days of survival, and it’s not quiet survival either."
The official synopsis for RAMPAGE:
Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry transforms this gentle ape into a raging monster. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered alpha predators. As these newly created monsters tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.
RAMPAGE is set for an April 20, 2018 release.
