300 (SE) – July 31

Looks like Warner Home Video is handling the 300 release the right way with a two disc special edition right out of the gate. There’ll also be a standard, bare bones edition but who wants that when you have the extra goodness included with the special edition. Both editions will be available in separate Anamorphic Widescreen and Full Screen formats.

Disc 1: Main Feature

  • English, French and Spanish DD5.1 Surround
  • English, French and Spanish subtitles
  • Audio Commentary with director Zack Snyder, writer Kurt Johnstad and director of photography Larry Fong

Disc 2: Extra Features (Special Edition only)

  • Deleted Scenes with Introduction by Zack Snyder
  • 300 Spartans – Fact or Fiction? (24:31mins) – Historians, authors and filmmakers reveal how much of the film was based on fact.
  • Who Were The Spartans: The Warriors of 300 (4:24mins) – Touches on the customs and ways of life of the Spartan that weren’t explicitly shown in 300 but

were used by the actors and filmmakers to help build their characters.

  • Frank Miller Tapes (13:00mins) – We’ll show how the outspoken Miller continued to push his limits to realize his epic graphic novel in the world of film
  • Webisodes: Behind the scenes peeks on the set of 300 (20:00mins)
  • Photo gallery (3:39mins) – Rapid fire stills from the first day of production to the last.

Widescreen Edition

Special Edition

Zodiac – July 24

It’s difficult for me to see Jake Gyllenhaal in a flick and not wonder what would’ve been had he been cast as SPIDER-MAN. For one, we wouldn’t have Tobey Maguire and his weird upper lip that never moves, trying to convince me he’s doing good. Anyway, no details have been released for ZODIAC but stay tuned. Until then, read Tim Goernert’s review of the flick here.

Heroes (S1) – August 28

HEROES, the best new show on network TV. Or so I’ve been told. I just may be able to catch this one early in the game before it completely passes me by. LOST stinks. That is all.

Includes:

  • Unaired Pilot: The Tim Kring Cut with Audio Commentary – A full 73 uninterrupted minutes of the original, unaired, extended pilot episode, as Heroes’

creator Tim Kring first envisioned it, with a character never seen.

  • The Making of Heroes – From concept to pop culture phenomenon, a behind-the-scenes look at the hottest new series on television
  • Special Effects – The secrets behind the eye-popping visuals that give the Heroes their amazing powers.
  • The Stunts – A back stage look at the show’s hair-raising stunts.
  • Mind Reader – Matt Parkman’s mind reading abilities reveal your inner Hero with a series of simple tests.
  • Profile of Artist Tim Sale – A look at the Eisner Award-winning comic book artist (Spiderman, Batman, Daredevil) behind much of the Manga-influenced

    artwork used in the show.

  • The Score – Go behind the scenes with Wendy Melvin and Lisa Coleman (of Prince’s The Revolution) as they create their ASCAP Award-winning musical score.
  • 50 Deleted and Extended Scenes

The Hills Have Eyes 2 (Unrated) – July 17

I don’t even remember this being released in the theater. The first one had some really creepy scenes in it, but the second? Anyone see this? Strike back below.

Includes:

  • Alternate Ending
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Exploring the Hills: The Making of The Hills Have Eyes 2 Featurette
  • Fox Movie Channel Presents: Life After Film School with Wes Craven Featurette
  • Mutant Attacks Featurette
  • Birth of a Graphic Novel Featurette
  • Gag Reel
  • Trailers
